Snatching It Back: Best of ReviewClarence Carter's work as documented in this collection is nothing short of amazing. His work stands in the area where the blues and soul music meet, and the results will definitely grab you. His voice is so soulful and expressive and really put it across like the old bluesmen were capable of doing. This compilation is the best of his work from 1965-1970 and has too many great songs to mention. If you are a fan of the Allman Brothers Band or Duane Allman, this disc does feature three songs on which Duane Allman is credited as a session musician. The slide guitar solo he plays on "The Road Of Love" sounds as if he will literally tear the roof off the studio and gives me chills every time I hear it. Also worth noting is the two songs on this collection that were also covered by Etta James: "I'd Rather Go Blind" and "Tell Daddy", which was released as "Tell Mama" by Etta James. Overall, this is a really strong collection and while Clarence Carter may not get props like some of the other great soul men do, he should. This collection is the proof.Snatching It Back: Best of OverviewHe later left for ABC and then the Ichiban label, but this Alabama soul man recorded most of his best work-and biggest hits-for Atlantic. His definitive Atlantic collection includes his hits Slip Away; Patches; Too Weak to Fight; Snatching It Back; Looking for a Fox; Doin' Out Thing; I Can't Leave Your Love Alone , and 14 more!
